Anything I can do for ankylosing spondylitis?

My doctor said that the pain in my back was due to ankylosing spondylitis, but has only given me NSAIDs for treatment. I still have pain in my back. Do you think I can also benefit from physical therapy?

The short answer is that there are anumber of therapies that can be helpful for controlling Ankylosing Spondylitis in addition to nonsteroidals. Physical therapy can be helpful in increasing motion through the spine while stretching muscles. A whole category of drugs that are helpful are biologics. Depending on the activity of your disease, biologic therapy can be appropriate. A more thorough description of biologics can be found on thespinecommunity.com. Dr. B
